Terengganu ‘Beachland Paradise’ is indeed one of the very blessed states of Malaysia, which is endowed with a wealth of charming and refreshing natural landscapes. She has beaches, exotic islands, lush virgin tropical jungle, quaint fishing villages, dazzling waterfalls and many more. Her miles and miles of white sandy beaches and crystal clear water stretches throughout its 225 km coastline, extending from Besut in the north and Kemaman in the south. Her islands are among the most picturesque and fascinating in the country. Its colorful pastime is batik printing and songket weaving to the rapturous celebration of its many generations of cultural and traditional heritage.
PLACES OF INTEREST
- Rantau Abang is one of six places in the world where the giant leatherback turtles will visit for laying eggs from May to September every year. These giant turtles can be up to 2.5 metre and more than 375kg. Turtle watching is one of the main activities with strict regulations to follow by the visitors.
- Kapas Island is noted for its pure emerald waters and white sand beaches. This is another island with wonderful marine life and a long kept secret by lovers of the underwater world. The water activities are such as snorkeling, diving, wind surfing, kayaking, and boating.
- Redang Island is situated 50km off the coast of Kuala Terengganu and one of the most beautiful islands in the east coast and has good underwater visibility and clear waters with white sandy shores. This island is recommended for diving and snorkeling activities as it has vast areas of coral reefs where the coral formations are a breathtaking sight including the varieties of colourful marine life.
- Perhentian Island situated 21km off the coast of Terengganu and consists of two islands which is Perhentian Besar Island and Perhentian Kecil Island and is surrounded with virgin jungle and palm trees on white sandy beaches. The islands are ideal for relaxation and known for activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, wind surfing, sailing and canoeing.
- Fishing Village Visitors could observe the lifestyle of several Malaysian traditional fishing villages.
- Waterfront is a place for visitors to experience the typical daily lifestyle of the fisherman in the East Coast of Malaysia.
- Silk Weaving Centre Visitors can witness the traditional silk-making methods and batik painting. Apart from that, there are also demonstrations on basket weaving, songket weaving, wood carving and etc.
- State Museum houses the fisheries museum, maritime museum and the replica of four traditional palaces. The history of Terengganu and the royalty had been well documented and exhibited.
- State Mosque is also known as ‘Floating Mosque’. The mosque combined both the Moorish and modern architecture.
