PLACES OF INTEREST

  • Pangkor Island Pangkor Island is the bustling fishing village and the largest island in Perak. The island with its quaint mix of fishing settlements and resorts is a fascinating holiday venue. It presents the visitor the rare chance to live near fisher folk and observe their lifestyle or to simply enjoy the fine beaches and resorts.


  • Sam Poh Tong Temple This cave temple is an impressive work of art with various statues of Buddha set among natural stalactites and stalagmites.


  • Mekprasit Temple This is a Thai Buddhist temple and the highlight is the 24 metre long reclining Buddha which is one of the largest in Malaysia.


  • Ipoh Railway Station It is a mixture of Moorish and Victorian architecture. It has one of the best station hotels in the country.


  • Perak Tong Perak Tong has huge limestone caves which became a place of mediation for Buddhist monks. And within one of the caves leads to caverns and grottoes with some statues and paintings of the Buddha. The main attraction is a 12.8 metre high sitting Buddha. A passage leads into the cave’s interior and after a steep climb of 385 steps and it opens onto a ledge which gives a view of the countryside.


  • Kellie's Castle An unfinished mansion commissioned by William Kellie Smith, an English rubber planter in 1915. In the middle of its construction, Smith left for England where he died in 1926 and the castle was never completed. Shrouded in mystery, it is believed that kellie’s Castle has hidden underground rooms and tunnels.


  • Tempurung Gua These ancient caves are made up five domes with ceilings that resemble coconut shells with various formations of stalactites and stalagmites. The caves are beautifully lighted and are one of the main attractions for the visitors. Cave exploration also can be arranged for visitors to explore the untouched parts of the caves which stretch over a kilometre.


  • Clock Tower This clock tower is mainly noted for its unusual leaning, built in the style of an eight-storey pagoda. It is nicknamed ‘the leaning tower of PISA, Italy’ because of the similarity. Originally constructed for a water tank in 1885, it still keeps the time today.


  • Perak Museum The museum was built in 1883 and is the country’s oldest museum. It displays impressive collection of archaelogical treasures which reflects Perak’s rich historical heritage and pre-history.


  • Malaysia’s Oldest Rubber Tree Rubber was introduced into the country in 1877 when nine trees were planted in Kuala Kangsar by H.N. Ridley.


  • Dutch Fort This 300 year old stone foundations of the Dutch Fort is one of the main attraction. Built in 1670, it was one of the Dutch strongholds against pirates. The fort was abandoned after their era of occupation in Malaysia and left the country. The preservation of the fort in 1973 was undertaken by the National Museum.


  • Bukit Merah Laketown This theme Park with breathtaking 600 hectare lake has various attractions for visitors. The lake is a man made lake during the era of tin mining industry.
